此剧残暴程度美剧史上都少有，《监狱风云》将观众带到Oswald劳教所中，那里的玻璃笼子中关着残暴至极的重刑犯。汤姆·方塔纳创作了这个复杂的故事——开始于Tobias Beecher进入这所监狱，并随着他在监狱的转变而展开——达到了莎士比亚悲剧级别的高度。
