监製Jazz透露：同盟「虽然有部份城寨演员参与，但故事是截然不同。今次会找来鲍起静（鲍姐）做『武则天』，在剧中管天下，而剧情讲到现代世界的角力，还有一些神秘情节，主要围绕陈展鹏、胡定欣、陈山聪、姚子羚之间的竞争。
《食梦者》的主人公真城最高是一名初三的学生，和大多数人一样只想顺其自然的生活，他有着绘画的才能同时暗恋着同班的亚豆，一天突然接到了同班的学年尖子生高木秋人“和我一起搭档成为漫画家吧”的邀请。虽然最高当场拒绝掉邀请，但还是被秋人以不泄露秘密为条件组成搭档。从此，为了梦想，两人踏上成为漫画家的道路。
故事发生在1943年敌后抗日根据地冀中小镇安邱城。此时我军势力不断发展壮大，周边数座县城都被解放，安邱城中的日伪无不人心惶惶，各思退路。经营一间驴肉馆“鼎香楼”的大伙计蔡水根（饰）颇得日伪赏识，而他实际上是将敌人玩弄于股掌之上的地下共产党员。在蔡水根的带领下，几位共产党员展开了英勇无畏的地下抗日活动。
