这部剧灵感来自喜剧演员/歌手Bridget Everett本人的生活，背景设置在她老家堪萨斯州；女主Sam（Bridget Everett饰）虽然是堪萨斯州人，但她一直与此地格格不入，而唱歌对她来说是救赎。Sam会踏上探索自我的旅程，即使是在自己家乡犹如局外人也她，她仍然不会轻言放弃。
