在《广告狂人》第六季的结尾，背负着巨大谎言、并不断用酒精和出轨麻醉自己、寻求心理自偿的广告才子唐德雷珀糜烂不检点的私生活被女儿萨丽撞破败露，和二婚妻子梅根的婚姻又再度产生巨大裂痕。梦魇般阵阵袭来的成长经历、物是人非的同僚令唐德雷珀对充斥着虚伪人际的广告业乃至整个中产社会产生了巨大的排斥和疲惫情绪，渴望“洗净”自己的唐在SCDP的客户见面会上崩溃、坦白了自己的身世，令客户自觉受到羞辱，SCDP合伙人为了公司利益辞退了唐，职位由他曾经提拔起来的徒弟、如今叱咤广告业的才女佩琪接任。
