《大丽家的往事》以西南三线工厂的大环境为背景，以1965年至2000年三代“厂花”的人物命运和情感纠葛为主线，真实展示了一段三线工厂的历史变迁，谱写了壮美的时代赞歌。对于为何没有延用《二十四城记》这一片名，该剧制片方表示：“贾璋柯导演的电影使用了“记录”这一手法靠几位演员用嘴“说”的方式呈现那个时代的东西，而电视剧是要通过演员的表演给广大观众展现一个感动、完整的故事，从手法上完全不同。我们现在这个名字更接地气！”
